Advancing Women's Health: UNT Researcher Explores Environmental and Genetic Factors

Julia Heck, serving as the Associate Dean for Research within the College of Health and Public Service at the University of North Texas, passionately delves into critical areas of women's health, leveraging her expertise in epidemiology acquired from Columbia University and a postdoctoral fellowship at the International Agency for Research on Cancer. With a keen focus on advancing our understanding of the complexities surrounding maternal and child health, Heck leads groundbreaking research projects exploring the multifaceted impacts of environmental toxins and genetic conditions.

Her recent investigations encompass an array of significant health matters, ranging from the effects of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) exposure on eye cancer risk in children to the correlation between Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (AATD) and pregnancy complications.
