Transforming Health Equity: The VOICES of Black Women® Study by the American Cancer Society
The American Cancer Society (ACS) is embarking on a transformative journey with the launch of the VOICES of Black Women® study. With a commitment to enroll over 100,000 Black women aged 25 to 55 from diverse backgrounds, this groundbreaking initiative is led by esteemed researchers Dr. Alpa Patel and Dr. Lauren McCullough. The study aims to delve deeply into the complexities of cancer risk and outcomes within the Black female population, recognizing and addressing the existing disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. By amplifying the voices and experiences of Black women, the study endeavors to uncover the multifaceted drivers of cancer incidence, mortality, and resilience within this demographic. Through rigorous scientific inquiry and community collaboration, the findings from the VOICES of Black Women® study will pave the way for the development of targeted interventions and policies aimed at eliminating disparities and improving the overall health and well-being of Black women for generations to come.
