Baylor's 2024 Centennial Professors: Innovating Research in Mayan Collapse & NCAA Athletics

Julie Hoggarth, Ph.D., associate professor of anthropology, and Jeffrey C. Petersen, Ph.D., professor of sport management, have been selected to receive the 2024 Centennial Professor Awards for summer research projects.

Hoggarth's research focuses on the impact of drought on the Mayan collapse, while Petersen examines the historical evolution of administrative staff in collegiate sports. Supported by the Baylor Class of 1945, these awards facilitate summer research projects aimed at enriching academic life and fostering faculty development. Hoggarth's project, "The Fates of Human Societies," utilizes interdisciplinary approaches to explore the correlation between severe droughts and societal collapse, while Petersen's study, "Projecting the Future of NCAA Athletics," investigates staffing trends in collegiate sports.
