TTU System Receives 6,000-Acre Land Gift for Astronomy Campus
The Texas Tech University System (TTU System) recently announced the reception of a significant land gift spanning 6,000 acres from the 3 Rivers Foundation for Arts and Sciences. This generous donation encompasses the Comanche Springs Astronomy Campus (CSAC) and associated facilities, situated 10 miles west of Crowell, Texas. Notably, the CSAC property resides within the expansive region known as the "Big Empty," stretching from the outskirts of the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex to Amarillo. This area holds immense potential for research, education, and community engagement, presenting promising opportunities for the TTU System and its five component universities.
The 3 Rivers Foundation, functioning as an educational nonprofit, is dedicated to fostering lifelong learning through the arts and sciences. Their mission encompasses initiatives in wildlife conservation, astronomy education, and the promotion of STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) disciplines, offering enriching experiences for educators, students, and the wider community.
