UT Southwestern Researchers Identify Compound for Selective Cancer Cell Elimination

Daolin Tang, MD, PhD

UT Southwestern Medical Center researchers have uncovered a compound that selectively kills cancer cells while leaving immune cells unharmed through ferroptosis, a type of cell death. Published in Science Translational Medicine, the findings offer promising avenues for treating various cancer types, according to Dr. Daolin Tang, a Professor of Surgery at UT Southwestern. Ferroptosis, discovered over a decade ago, presents an opportunity for overcoming chemotherapy resistance in certain cancers, Dr. Tang explained.
