UTA's Traineeship Program Provides a Launchpad for Research Careers

Associate Professor of physics Benjamin Jones at The University of Texas at Arlington has been awarded a grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to sustain his successful traineeship program. The initiative exposes undergraduate students to opportunities in particle and nuclear physics, relevant to various careers such as nuclear medicine, radiation therapy, archaeology, precision management, and astrophysics.

UTA's Nuclear Research Experiences for Minority Students (NREMST) initiative commenced in 2021 with the objective of providing students from historically underrepresented populations with immersive experiences in nuclear physics. The 2024 program officially kicks off in the summer, allowing mentors to establish relationships with students while introducing them to the subject matter and research expectations. Students showing engagement and enthusiasm during the first summer are encouraged to re-apply for a second summer, with options for remote paid work in the subsequent fall and spring semesters.
